Phylicia Ashley is the Washington, D.C. Bureau Reporter for 7News. She joined the team in the summer of 2024.

Phylicia began her journalism career as a reporter and anchor at WJFW, in Rhinelander Wisconsin. Following her time in the Northwoods, Phylicia continued to anchor and report in Louisville, Kentucky with WAVE 3. While in Louisville she received her first Emmy for revealing a fake holy water scheme at an international temple. Phylicia received her second Emmy after breaking the Breonna Taylor story. Her reporting led to city and country-wide law changes across several states, related to no-knock warrants. It also led to multi-level changes within the Louisville Police Department and city leadership.

Phylicia came to D.C. from the legacy ABC affiliate WFTV- Eyewitness News in Orlando, Florida. Phylicia was the leading enterprise reporter known for her investigative reporting.

Phylicia is a former dancer with training from Alvin Ailey, The Dance Theatre of Harlem, The Harlem School of the Arts and Broadway Dance Center.

Phylicia is of West Indian descent and grew up in Chappaqua, New York. Phylicia graduated from New York University. While attending NYU, Phylicia was a serial intern. She obtained her initial journalism experience while interning at Source Magazine, PBS: Finding Your Roots With Henry Louis Gates, CNN, CNBC, Dateline, TODAY Show and Tom Brokaw.

Phylicia loves live music, the performing arts, and volunteering with children. She’s a book nerd and foodie. Phylicia also loves traveling and spending time with her dog Ace.
